STEPHENVILLE (May 10, 2016) — Yes, Marty Yates is a team roper, too.

The two-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier in tie-down roping split the second round of team roping at the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo in Guymon, Oklahoma last week, heeling for header and fellow tie-down star Ryan Jarrett as they combined for a time of 5.1 seconds to pocket $1,846 each.

Yates also tied for fourth in the second round of tie-down action at Guymon, roping and tying his calf in 8.5 seconds for $1,058. Another Stephenville roper and two-time NFR qualifier in the event, Sterling Smith tied for second in 8.0 seconds in the opening round, earning $1565.

Yates also won the tie-down roping at the Chisholm Trail Stampede in Duncan, Oklahoma, winning $1,072 in 8.8 seconds.

Guymon was a popular destination for Erath County ropers as Walt Woodard heeled his way to the average title and $2,962 along with header Adam Rose. They roped three head in 21.5 seconds, splitting the eight-hole three ways in 7.1 seconds in each of the opening two rounds and tying for fifth in the final round. Woodard made a total of $3,892 at the rodeo.

Morgan Mill heeler Dakota Kirchenschlager joined header Tyler Wade in winning the first round team roping in 5.4 seconds, good for $1,975. Stephenville’s David Key and Travis Woodard were second in 6.1, a pay day of $1,717 each. Dubliner Blaine Vick and Stephenville’s Jim Ross Cooper placed eighth in the average at 25.6 on three, and were paid $258.

Team ropers Luke Brown of Stephenville and Jake Long of Morgan Mill placed second in Duncan. They roped head and heels in 5.7, good for $808.

Reigning world champ Jacobs Crawley continued defense of his saddle bronc title by winning the Panola County Cattlemen’s Rodeo in Carthage. Crawley scored 85.5 on Hi Lo ProRodeo’s Garden City Gal for a paycheck of $1,147. His brother, Sterling Crawley, placed fourth with 79 points, earning $287.
