Seven Tarleton athletes combine for 11 All-America honors

(May 28, 2016) — Tarleton State had seven athletes combine for 11 All-American honors Saturday, the final day of the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

DeAijha Hicks-Boyce earned All-America honors in three events while Chase Rathke returned to the podium and retained his All-America stature in the men’s 1,500 meter run.

Rathke charged from 10th of 12 at the halfway mark to pass runners on the outside and move into fourth by the finish of the 1,500, the race he won a national championship in two years prior.

The fourth place finish came in 3:49.70 for Rathke, whose seeding time was in the 3:44s. Rathke had already earned multiple All-America honors and has been an LSC Athlete of the Year in both indoor and outdoor track and is graduating as one of the most decorated athletes in the history of Tarleton.

Rathke’s All-American finish followed a sixth-place run of 46.44 seconds by the Tarleton women’s 4×100 meter relay team, making All-Americans out of leadoff leg Deylinn Garrett, the only senior on the team, No. 2 Ariel Ballard, setup sensation Hicks-Boyce and anchor woman Alexondria Brooks. Ballard, Hicks-Boyce and Brooks are all sophomores.

Hicks-Boyce and Ballard also ran on the 4×400 relay for the TexAnns. The foursome placed sixth in 3:42.55.

Hicks-Boyce added All-America honors with an eighth place finish in the 100 meter and by coming in eighth in the 200. She ran the 100 in 12.11 and the 200 in 24.01.
