STEPHENVILLE (May 28, 2016) — Former Tarleton State baseball head coach and Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame member Jack Allen past away Saturday morning. He directed the Texans on the diamond from 1990-2002.

“Jack Allen was a great baseball coach and just an outstanding gentleman,” said Tarleton athletic director Lonn Reisman. “In every area of his life demonstrated that he was a true hall of famer.”

Allen won 418 games in 13 seasons at Tarleton. His teams claimed a Texas Intercollegiate Athletics Association regular season championship and tournament title in 1992, reached the NCAA Division II regionals in 1998 and won Lone Star Conference South Division crowns in 1999 and 2000.

Even when Tarleton made the leap from NAIA to NCAA, Allen continued to win. His 1995 Texans kicked off the program’s NCAA Division II era with a record of 36-25. He led Tarleton to nine 30-win seasons and just one losing campaign.

Allen was inducted into the Tarleton Athletics Hall of Fame in 2009, after already having been elected to the American Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2000. Before his time at Tarleton, he was 814-399 while winning nine conference titles at Ranger College, earning him a place in the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame.

Current Tarleton head coach Bryan Conger played for Allen, who was later part of the hiring committee that brought Conger back in 2009 to lead the Texan baseball program.

“Jack made everyone at Tarleton State proud,” Reisman said. “He is a great hall of famer and will be dearly missed.”
