Yates wins Pecos, tops $12K for week

(June 26, 2016) — Stephenville tie-down roper Marty Yates won more than $12,000 this weekend and is headed to the top 10 of the PRCA world rankings.

Yates won a rodeo for the fourth consecutive week, topping the field at the two-head West of the Pecos Rodeo, where he also won the second round and a total of just under $6,000. He also was second in the Rodeo of the Ozarks in Springdale, Ark. for more than $4,000.

Kaleb Driggers, a header of Huckabay, and Junior Nogueira have been riding a team roping heater of late, and that continued with the exception of a tough short go at Reno. Driggers and Nogueira were second in the first-go, however, for more than $3,900. They also won the second round at Pecos for just over $2,000 and were second in the average at Rodeo de Santa Fe for almost $3,300 more.

Saddle bronc riding stars and brothers Jacobs and Sterling Crawley were also strong last week, highlighted by Sterling splitting the short-go and finishing fourth in the average at Reno, where he earned almost $4,000. Sterling tied for second and won almost $2,700 at Pecos, and Jacobs, the reigning world champ in the event, was second at Santa Fe for close to $1,900.
