(July 9, 2016) — Three more Stephenville Summer Track athletes earned spots at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Summer Games of Texas and the team combined for four career bests on the final day of the TAAF Region IV Track & Field Meet in The Colony Saturday.

Jilt DeBoer won the regional championship in the 12U boys 1,600 meter run, finishing in a career best 5 minutes, 30.53 seconds. He will also compete at state in the 400 meter, placing third in a career-best 1:04.74.

Jilt will be joined at state by Kiley Chaplin, who took third in the 14U girls discus at 78 feet, 9 inches, and Xavier Gonzalez, who took fifth in the 8U boys 800 meter run in 3:12.46. Rob Harrison, 10U boys shot put, and Ilse DeBoer, 14U girls 800 meter, each punched their tickets to state on Friday, giving Stephenville a total of five state-bound competitors under the direction of former Tarleton State track and field standout Marquis Thompson.

Gonzalez also competed in the 400 meter, finishing in 1:28.69, while Isaiah Watts posted career bests in two events in 8U boys, running the 200 in 41.70 and the 400 in 1:30.72.
