STEPHENVILLE – For the second consecutive season, Tarleton’s Hailey Roberts has earned league-wide acclaim from the coaches, sports information directors, and media before the season’ first serve ever goes up.

The junior from Cedar Park added another award to her already loaded list of collegiate accomplishments after being named the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year Tuesday.

“I couldn’t be happier for her,” said head coach Mary Schindler. “Hailey is a tremendous athlete, who works very hard. For her to be named the preseason offensive player of the year is a great honor for her, her teammates, and our program. It’s a very just award for her.”

In her first two seasons with the TexAnns, Roberts has already etched her name into the Tarleton record books after leading Tarleton to its first two conference championships and national playoff appearances each year. She is the reigning LSC Offensive Player of the Year, D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year, and AVCA First-Team All-American, which made her the first Tarleton player in history to earn honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

She enters her junior season ranked No. 6 all-time in school history in kills (1,237), No. 7 all-time in attack attempts (2,897), and No. 9 all-time in service aces (132). Last year alone, she set the single-season school record for attack attempts (1,674) and kills (728) while leading the nation in kills and kills per set (5.69).

“The be named the preseason player of the year for the second straight year is a tremendous blessing and I’m looking forward to working hard and earning it on the court,” said Roberts.

Roberts and the TexAnns were picked No. 2 in the annual LSC preseason poll, which was released Monday afternoon. Tarleton will open the season on Friday, September 2 in San Angelo at the Kathleen Brasfield Invitational at Angelo State.
