Stephenville hiccups early, dominates late to beat Godley

(September 13, 2016) — Stephenville (17-14, 2-0) outscored Godley 75-50 after dropping the first set, winning in four to make it back-to-back road victories to begin 8-4A district play.

The Honeybees won 18-25, 25-17, 25-20, 25-13, their third straight victory after also topping West – in their final pre-district match – and Waxahachie Life – in their 8-4A opener – each in straight sets. Stephenville is home Friday at 4:30 p.m. to take on Alvarado.

Three Stephenville players – Nicona Stilwell, Chloe Goodman and Jayci Morton – led the attack with 10 kills each. Stilwell was also in on seven blocks, Goodman had three aces and Morton doubled up with 10 digs.

Taylor Garber had seven kills, 25 assists and 13 digs for a double-double, while Hailey Martin racked up 25 digs. Emily Brandon had seven kills and two blocks, and Ashton Garner was in on four blocks.
