STEPHENVILLE (September 23, 2016) – Stephenville City Administrator Pat Bridges officially announced his resignation this week. After more than two years of leading city staff, he is headed just down the road – and back to the work that brought him to the city.

He will serve his last day with the city on October 7.

Bridges first came to Stephenville in August 2010, signing on as chief of police following the retirement of Roy Halsell. He continued to serve in that capacity until August 2014 when he was appointed interim city administrator following the departure of his predecessor, Mark Kaiser.

Bridges served in the interim capacity until being selected as the lone finalist in a search for a full-time city administrator in January 2015. The applicant pool included more than 30 individuals.

Now, almost two years after taking that position, Bridges was presented the “right opportunity at the right time.”

“I will be serving as an assistant police chief in the UT Arlington Police Department,” Bridges said.

Prior to moving into his new office at City Hall, Bridges’ career in law enforcement spanned almost three decades. UT Arlington is not far from the department with which he had the longest service record.

Bridges’ resume includes more than 21 years with the city of Arlington Police Department, where he worked from July 1986 until November 2007. During his time there, Bridges served as patrol officer, investigator, field training officer, sergeant and lieutenant.

He also worked for more than two-and-a-half years as assistant police chief at the Haltom City Police Department, where he served December 2007 to July 2010.

When asked about his career and the similarities and/or differences in law enforcement and city administration Bridges had a simple, straight-forward reply.

“The administrator role is much more demanding in all aspects,” he said.

As he prepares to take on his newest assignment, Bridges said through the last six years, the people of Stephenville is what he valued the most.

“The best memories I have are of the friends I made here,” he said.

As far as the next administrator is concerned, Bridges said the Stephenville City Council will consider an interim replacement during a closed-door, executive session meeting Tuesday.
