The tie down roping began a little sluggishly, until World Champion Shane Hanchey from Sulphur, Louisiana turned in a time of 7.9 seconds. The run only fueled the fire of the top contestants entered at the CCPRA in the Tie Down roping.  Michael Otero from Krum, Texas quickly took the lead from Hanchey with a time of 7.5 seconds. Marcos Costa, a Brazilian cowboy, who now lives in Childress, Texas moved into the second place position with a time of 7.6 seconds. Costa is currently ranked number one in the world standings of the tie down calf roping.  Ike Fontenot from Ville Platte, Louisiana also turned in a time of 7.6 seconds to split second and third with Costa.  The 7.6 was a popular time for the morning. Westyn Hughes from Caldwell, Texas was also a 7.6.  The final calf roper of the morning was Landon McClaugherty from Tilden, Texas and he made a valiant effort, but fell short with a time of 7.7 seconds.
