STEPHENVILLE (September 28, 2016) – Live music and good company are set to converge on downtown Stephenville for Playin’ on the Plaza on Thursday. The event is sponsored by the city of Stephenville, which invites residents to come together to enjoy cooler weather and comradery.

Immediate Blues Band, a Stephenville-based group with a soulful sound that combines band members’ love for classic rock and blues music, will perform. And, attendees can skip cooking dinner – food trucks will roll onto the scene.

Playin’ on the Plaza is the first event of its kind and features a family friendly good time. Food trucks will begin serving at 6 p.m., the music begins at 7 p.m. and the event is expected to wind down by 9 p.m.

It’s happening at the Downtown Plaza, which is located across Washington Street from Stephenville City Hall.

“We invite everyone to bring their lawn chairs and have a good time,” City Secretary Cindy Stafford said.

She also said many cities host similar events, and if there is a favorable response from the local community, Playin’ on the Plaza could eventually become a monthly event.

“We will first start off holding them every fifth week, which makes it about once a quarter and the next on December 29,” Stafford said, adding the biggest challenge could be finding performers who are willing to share their talents without charging a fee.

“We hope this something that everyone will work together to make a success,” Stafford added.

As far as food trucks are concerned, all are welcome to participate, but the city would like for vendors to call ahead to reserve the spot.

“That will also allow us to advertise that they’ll be there,” Stafford said.

Coolers are welcome at the event, which is free and open to the public.
