STEPHENVILLE (October 3, 2016)- With the beginning of fall comes the annual migration of thousands of birds. In order to raise money to help conserve those waterfowl and the wetlands, Cross Timbers Ducks Unlimited is hosting its annual banquet and fundraiser. The dinner and auction will be held 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 at City Limits.
“We have a silent auction and a live auction that are used to benefit Ducks Unlimited,” area chairman Wes Powell said. “It includes a sit down meal- steak dinner with all the trimmings from the Agave.”
At the fundraiser will also be several fundraiser-style games. One game is called the “Wall of Coolers” and is sponsored by Stephenville Golf Carts.
“We have ten coolers that are filled with various different things,” Powell said. “One has firearms. Another has Yeti products in it. The coolers are sealed up and tied shut, so no one can look at them. We draw ten winners at the end of the night, and they get to open their cooolers and see what is in it.”
But, adults won’t be the only ones having fun. Ducks Unlimited will have a free special kids table for children under 12.
“I’ll give them tickets, and we will draw tickets out and they get to choose anything off the table,” Powell said. “It could be BB guns, fishing poles, pocket knives, just fun things for the kids. We draw until the table is empty, so some kids leave with three or four items at the end of the night.”
In addition to the games, a silent and live auctions will be held. Special to the live auction will be an eight person package to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. The package includes a four bedroom, four bathroom villa with a pool for six days and six nights. It does not include airfare.
“That will be a live auction item exclusively at the banquet,” Powell said.
Tickets for the banquet can be purchased at Star Arms or online here. A single ticket costs $40, a couples’ ticket costs $60 and youth tickets for kids 16 and under cost $20. All tickets except for youth tickets will cost $10 more the night of the banquet.
Anyone can also buy tickets for the pre-event raffle for one of ten guns at Star Arms or from Cross Timber Ducks Unlimited committee members. Tickets cost $100 or can be bought as part of a package with banquet tickets.
“Ducks Unlimited’s big thing is they are the largest wetlands conservation organization in the world,” Powell said. “They’ve conserved over 13 million acres in North America since 1937. We request the money we raise stay in Texas. We either request it to be used in the Playa Lakes in the Panhandle or we request that it be used on the Texas Gulf Coast for habitat restoration.”
