TexAnns throttle Cameron in straight sets

LAWTON, Okla. (October 7, 2016) — Tarleton pounded Cameron to the tune of a season-high .427 hitting percentage in Friday night’s road sweep of the Aggies.

Led by the floor general Jordyn Keamo‘s 37 assists, the Tarleton offense landed 45 kills in 82 swings with just 10 errors on the night. In the first set, Tarleton landed 17 kills with just two miscues for a 25-18 win in the opening set. Tarleton capped off the night with a .550 hitting clip with 13 kills and two errors on 20 attempts in the match-sealing 25-10 third set rout.

The first set started off tight as the teams split the first 22 points to open in an 11-11 tie before Keamo put Tarleton in control with a kill and back-to-back aces for a quick 14-11 lead. The TexAnns pushed the lead to four on the next point with a block from Elizabeth Muliaga and Hailey Roberts.

Cameron pulled the opening set back to as close to three on multiple occasions before Tarleton ended the set by scoring five of the final six points to take the first set 25-18.

Tarleton carried that momentum into the second set by jumping out to a 15-6 lead after the opening 21 serves. Cameron pulled as close as six but Tarleton continued to pull away before Hailey Robertsended the set with a kill shot.

The third set featured complete domination by the TexAnns from the get-go as the Aggies only managed to score back-to-back points on just two occasions throughout the set as Tarleton cruised to a 25-10 win and the sweep.

Hailey Roberts continued her pursuit of the school’s all-time kills record as the junior from Cedar Park landed a team-leading 15 kills on a .440 hitting percentage. Roberts improved her career kills total to 1,529, which brings her 16 kills away from tying Desiree Reed for the school’s all-time record. She also added 12 digs on the night for her 12th double-double of the season and the 51st of her career.

Hannah McManus finished behind her with a career offensive performance as the sophomore middle from Crawford landed eight kills on 12 swings with no errors for a .667 hitting percentage. Autumn Taylor also added eight kills and no miscues on 14 swings for a .571 hitting clip.

Keamo, who led the way with 37 assists, added four service aces to her ledger while Alissa Johnsontotaled a career high nine digs.

Tarleton will return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wichita Falls against Midwestern State.
