STEPHENVILLE (October 10, 2016) – It only took Bubba Tandy 14 seconds to impact Tarleton’s win over Western New Mexico Saturday and the league took notice by naming him the LSC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Tandy got things going right out of the gate Saturday night when the senior from Hopkinsville, Kentucky took the opening kickoff out of his own end zone to the house for a 7-0 Texan lead just 14 seconds into the contest. He finished the night with two kickoff returns for 120 yards.

It was the first kickoff return for a touchdown by a Texan since Cordell Valentine returned one 87 yards to pay dirt against Texas A&M-Commerce on October 15, 2011.

For Tandy, this marks his first career weekly honor from the Lone Star Conference. It also garnered him attention as a nominee for the D2 Football Hero of the Week by Hero Sports. Tandy joins a list of players from across the country in an online fan vote to be named the Hero of the Week. Fans can visit HeroSports.com to cast their vote for Tandy.

Tandy and the Texans will hit the road this weekend for a game in Portales, New Mexico against the Greyhounds at 4 p.m. CST / 3 p.m. MT.
