STEPHENVILLE (December 1, 2016) — Autumn Taylor fired the winning kills in each of the last three sets as No. 3 seed Tarleton State fought off a two-set deficit to eliminate No. 6 Regis (Colo.) in the opening round of the South Central Region Championship at the Stephens Arena in San Angelo Thursday.

Taylor had 20 kills and Tarleton started the fifth set on fire, building a quick 3-0 lead and staying in control throughout after edging Regis by two in the third and fourth sets to stay alive and win the marathon, 22-25, 21-25, 27-25, 25-23, 15-11.

Taylor, a senior outside hitter and Lamar transfer, led the TexAnns with 20 kills while CCCA South Central Region Player of the Year Hailey Roberts had 19 along with 30 digs. All-region junior setter Jordyn Keamo tallied 41 assists, 13 digs and a pair of aces and sophomore libero Adrianna Knutson registered 27 digs.

Roberts, who as a junior is already a two-time All-American and the all-time kills leader at Tarleton, had a double-double with 10 kills and 10 assists by the end of the second set.

Tarleton faces No. 2 seed Metro State-Denver or No. 7 Colorado Mesa in the regional semifinals at 5 p.m. Friday. The other half of the bracket features No. 4 Colorado School of Mines against No. 5 Arkansas-Fort Smith and No. 1 Angelo State against No. 8 Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Tarleton has never advanced past the second round of the regional tournament.
