Texans lead nation in FG% defense, fourth in scoring defense

STEPHENVILLE (December 6, 2016) — After knocking off Lone Star Conference rivals Midwestern State and Cameron, Tarleton State moved up one spot to No. 15 in the latest edition of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II rankings, released Tuesday.

The Texans (6-1) lead the nation in field goal percentage defense (34.8 percent) and is fourth in the nation in scoring defense (60.4 points per game). Further delving into the numbers, the Texans are second nationally in 3-point field goal percentage defense (22.3 percent).

The Texans have won three straight games including the 2-0 start to LSC play. They fell from No. 7 to No. 16 following their first loss – 79-78 to Colorado State-Pueblo on a free throw with 1.69 seconds left – and then defeated Emmanuel College, xx-xx, Midwestern, 64-56, and Cameron, 73-60, all at Wisdom Gym.

Tarleton swept the LSC weekly honors Monday, with Ridell Camidge named offensive player of the week and Romond Camidge taking defensive honors. Camidge averaged 17 points against MSU and Cameron, while Jenkins posted a pair of double-doubles. Camidge is the leading score on the season for Tarleton, while Jenkins averages a double-double and leaded the team in rebounds.

Tarleton has its first road trip of the season this week with LSC stops at Western New Mexico at 8:30 p.m. CST on Thursday and Eastern New Mexico at 8 p.m. CST on Saturday.
