DUBLIN (January 10, 2017) – Once again Dublin will be without a police chief as currently Chief Michael Jennings gave the Dublin City Council his notice during their regular meeting Monday night.
Jennings, who took over the top cop role in Dublin in 2015, said he was planning to retire and spend more time with the wife, his kids and grandchildren. He thank the council for the opportunity to work in “such a fine community.”
Many Dublin residents and community leaders said they were sad to hear of Jennings retirement as he’d done good things for the community. But Dublin city officials said the retirement is on good terms and that while they are sorry to lose Jennings, they wished him nothing but the best in the future.
“Accepting the resignation of Mike Jennings is a tough thing,” Dublin Mayor David Leatherwood said. “He has made the Dublin PD a very respectable police force. He is an outstanding person and that transferred to the job he has done here. He has been so great to work with, and will be very hard to replace.”
Jennings told the council he would stay on for a couple of weeks to give them some time to get things in order. Leatherwood said the council and city officials would begin looking for a new chief immediately, and, if need be, they would appoint an interim after that time to allow the committee enough time to find the right person for the job.
