STEPHENVILLE (January 12, 2017) – Texas Health Stephenville recently earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Chest Pain Certification, becoming the first health care facility in Erath County to receive Joint Commission certification for a chest pain program. The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

Texas Health Stephenville recently underwent a rigorous on-site review, where a Joint Commission surveyor extensively reviewed clinical practice guidelines and performance measures. The hospital’s program offers services that include a wide range of heart and vascular services for area residents, from diagnostic imaging testing to inpatient and outpatient procedures, along with follow-up care.

“With heart disease serving as the number one killer for both men and women across the nation, we want to provide a sense of comfort to residents,” said Dr. Brandie Williams, program medical director and a cardiologist on the Texas Health Stephenville medical staff. “We want residents to know that we’ll address the cardiovascular needs of their loved ones. This certification further demonstrates that we are fully committed to providing heart and vascular services safely and effectively, right here at home.”

Established in 2002 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification evaluates a broad spectrum of clinical programs and addresses three core areas:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
  • Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
  • An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.

“Texas Health Stephenville has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients suffering from chest pain,” said Patrick Phelan, interim executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. “We commend Texas Health Stephenville for becoming a leader in chest pain care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for chest pain patients in Erath County.”

“Without the tireless work and talent exhibited daily by hospital employees and physicians on the medical staff, this impactful achievement would not have been possible,” Dr. Williams said. “It’s an honor to be the first facility in Erath County to receive this prominent certification, but it especially shines the well-deserved spotlight on our dedicated clinical team – the individuals at the forefront of care.”
