STEPHENVILLE (January 13, 2017) – The Stephenville Music Club met at the First United Methodist Church (located at 422 W. Washington Street) on Thursday.  They meet there every second Thursday of the month.  Meetings begin at noon and the members enjoy a meal together at the conclusion of the meeting.  Visitors and guests are welcomed.

This month’s meeting began with welcoming words from Club President, Larry Parham.  Larry also led the club in the pledges of allegiance to both the United States flag as well as the Texas flag.  After discussing a little club business, they moved to the program of the month.  This month’s program was presented by Dan Devivo with some help from some other members as well.

The theme of this month’s program was Jim Nabors.  Every month they focus on a different artist.  Dan Devivo shared Jim Nabors’ bio and accomplishments with the club.

While Jim was working at a nightclub in California, he was discovered by Andy Griffith.  Jim later joined the Andy Griffith Show playing the role of Gomer Pyle. The Gomer Pyle character proved to be very popular and Nabors was later given his own spin-off show called Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C..

Nabors became a popular guest on several variety shows in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  He even had two specials of his own in 1969 and 1974.  In his lifetime, he would record numerous albums and singles.

Then, the club was treated to the entertainment portion of the meeting.  This began with a recreation of a Carol Burnett – Jim Nabors song/skit called the “Row, Row, Row Your Boat Medley.”  This was performed by Dan Devivo and Kelijon Nance.  This performance was followed by a dance presentation which was performed by Edwina Ferguson and Dave Pendleton.  The performance portion of the meeting was concluded when Dan Devivo sang a wonderful version of “The Impossible Dream.”

At the conclusion of the performances, the members filled their plates and enjoyed a delicious meal together.  A great time was had by all.  If you are interested in visiting or joining this group of music lovers, contact Jean Carr at 254-965-3117.
