STEPHENVILLE (January 22, 2017) – Mary Anderson began her educational career as a student at Stephenville ISD and has come full circle to teach in the district where she once learned. Anderson teaches math at Henderson Junior High.
Anderson graduated from Stephenville High School in 2004. She earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Tarleton State University while playing college volleyball. Anderson went on to teach junior high math and coach at Keller ISD.
“I’ve just always wanted to teach,” Anderson said. “I wanted to teach math because I had a few teachers who made it really fun and a few teachers who made it really hard, and it shouldn’t have been.”
Anderson also loves the relationships she is able to develop with the kids.
“Middle school kids are always interesting for sure, but they’re still young enough that they love you but old enough to get your sarcasm,” Anderson said.
Anderson and her family moved back to Stephenville after her husband, Byron Anderson, accepted the position as assistant athletic director for development (Radio Broadcast) at Tarleton State University.
“It’s nice to come back,” Anderson said.
