STEPHENVILLE (January 23, 2017) — Youth-driven Stephenville (9-1) has outscored its opponents 50-1 this season and over the weekend repeated as champions in the Knights of Columbus Challenge of Champions.

The Honeybees ripped Lorena 4-0 in the championship match Saturday afternoon, after beating Lampasas 7-0 in the semifinals. They also beat Everman, 6-0, in their pool finale Saturday morning after beating Lorena 3-0 and Waco Connally 8-0. They outscored their tournament foes by a combined 28-0.

It was a 6-0 week by the Honeybees, who earlier in the week blanked Granbury 2-0. They played seven matches in for days without allowing a goal.

Alexis De Los Santos was named MVP of the tournament from Stephenville.

Hayleigh Beam dealt three assists and Railey Reed enjoyed a brace with two goals in the championship. Freshmen Gracie Bales and Ciara Johnston scored the other goals with Claire Choate accounting for the other assist.

Senior sweeper Savannah Alford knocked home a penalty kick in the first half and added a brace to complete the scoring in the second half of the semifinal rout. De Los Santos, Johnston, Bales, Reed and Beatris Chavarria also scored goals.

Reed scored two goals in the Saturday morning pool finale against Everman, which Stephenville dominated without Alford as the Midwestern State pledge took her SAT exam. Joining Reed with goals were Beam, Choate, Bales and Lisa Strand, with Beam, Courtney Langley and Breanna Scroggins each dealing assists.

The Bees are on the road this week with matches at Alvarado at 7 p.m. Turesday and Burkburnett at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Their home opener at Lem Brock Field against Waco High is Tuesday, January 31 at 7 p.m.
