STEPHENVILLE (January 25, 2017) — Stephenville football is parting ways with defensive coordinator Jeffrey Thompson, confirmed head coach Greg Winder Wednesday evening.

Thompson, a Stephenville native, returned to his hometown in 2008 when Joseph Gillespie was promoted to head coach. Thompson was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2012 after Kevin Wilson left Stephenville to be head coach at Terrell.

“This is an unfortunate part of the coaching business, but something I felt the need to do for the good of the program moving forward,” said Winder. “I appreciate everything Coach Thompson has done in service to our kids and our program, and this is a professional decision and not a personal one. I wish the best for he and his family in their future endeavors.”

Thompson played on the first two SHS state championship teams in 1993 and 1994 and was on the coaching staff when the Yellow Jackets captured their fifth state title in 2012.
