Stephenville lifters set four meet records, win five classes

(January 30, 2017) — Stephenville set four meet records, won five total weight classes and captured an outstanding lifter award when the Yellow Jackets and Honeybees competed at Comanche’s powerlifting meet Saturday.

Ragan Wood set meet records for 220-pound class squat at 620 pounds, dead lift at 510 and total weight at 1,480. The senior dominated the boys weight class and earned the outstanding lifter distinction for the heavyweight classes for the second straight year at Comanche.

Keith Ray gave the Jackets another first-place finish with a total weight of 910 pounds in the 148 pound class. Ty’Von Robison took second in the 242-pound division with a total of 1,160, highlighted by a meet-record bench press of 320.

The Honeybees were also strong with three victories and two others placing in the top five. Haden Carrillo won the 105’s by lifting a total weight of 465, Jessica Ebeling won the 181’s at 610 and Nadine Arredondo won the 259s at 860. Maeci Ray was fourth in the 105s at 420 and Baylie Deviney took third in the 132s at 620.

The Bees finished second in the team standings and the Jackets fifth.

Stephenville lifts at San Saba Thursday afternoon and hosts its annual meet at Gandy Gym on Saturday, February 18.
