STEPHENVILLE (January 31, 2017) — The winning streak continued with ease, but the shutout streak ended because of a missed offsides call.

Class 4A No. 5 Stephenville (12-1) rolled past 5A Waco, 7-1, in a girls soccer match at Lem Brock Field Tuesday evening.

It was the 11th straight win for Stephenville, which learned of its lofty ranking by the Texas Girls Coaches Association earlier Tuesday then backed it up on the pitch.

Jimena Espinoza got the Honeybees off to an early lead when she curled a corner just inside the far post, but Waco caused a moment of pause in what would prove to be a goal party for Stephenville, when a Lady Lion got away clearly offside with no whistle and scored the first goal allowed by Stephenville freshman Madison Wyly in 11 matches.

But that’s all Waco would get all night, and it was a rout the rest of the way. Ciara Johnston and Graci Bales each scored for a 3-1 halftime lead, then Alexis De Los Santos made it 4-1 in the opening moments of the second half. Johnston earned a brace for the fifth goal, then Railee Reed and Hayleigh Beam rounded out the score fest. Bales had two assists while Johnston, Beam, Reed and Beatris Chavarria each had one.
