Peaster star Gentry, Dublin’s Moore each score 30 as Greyhounds survive Lions

GRANBURY (February 24, 2017) — Daegan Gentry amassed 30 points as No. 8 Peaster ended Dublin’s season in a 72-60 Region I-3A boys area playoff contest Friday evening.

A Brady Moore 3-pointer brought Dublin to within three with 2:05 remaining in the second quarter, but Gentry scored four points during a 6-0 run that gave Peaster a 41-33 halftime margin and the Greyhounds kept Dublin at arm’s length throughout the second half.

Moore scored 30 points for Dublin to match Gentry, but the Lions couldn’t match the Greyhounds overall. The senior Lion had 17 by halftime, before adding six points in the the third, which along with a Josh Hanes 3-pointer kept Dublin within 10 until a 6-2 push by the Greyhounds to take a 58-44 lead into the fourth.

Peaster answered every time Dublin scored in the fourth quarter, leading by at least 12 and pushing that margin – the biggest was 16 late in the third – to 15 at 70-55 following a pair of free throws with 56 seconds remaining. it was 72-57 before Moore rattled in a left wing 3 to conclude the scoring.

Rayce Jackson scored 12 for the 6-3A district champion Lions, who reached the area round with a 73-70 bi-district win over Merkel. Gabe Garcia added nine points for Dublin, Brayden Burleson four, Hanes there and Elton Galbreath two.

Dublin won its first district title since 2012, going from last in its district last season to first in its second year under head coach Will Parker.

Brandon Smith added 17 points and Brooks Pennington 16 for the Greyhounds, the runners-up in 7-3A who face 8-3A runner-up Nocona in the regional quarterfinals. Nocona has defeated Cisco and Jim Ned in its playoff run.
