Lindsey takes gold in boys high jump, Dahl in girls discus

(February 27, 2017) — Kyle Lindsey won the boys high jump and Vicki Dahl highlighted a strong day of throwing events on the girls side to highlight Stephenville’s presence at the Ram Relays in Mineral Wells Saturday.

Lindsey cleared 6 feet, 2 inches and won on jumps in the boys high jump, one of six events in which the Yellow Jackets placed among the strong field competition at the meet.

Dahl hurled the discus 124-5 to win the girls discus, the strongest event for either Stephenville team. Nadine Arredondo was second at 115-1 and Jordan Self fourth at 99-7. Arredondo was also second in shot put at 35-3, followed by teammate Alexus Duckett at 30-10.5.

Kristen Pettit was second in the 300 meter hurdles in 50.76 seconds and third in the 100 hurdles in 17.28. It was part of a busy day for Pettit, who also ran the third leg of the Honeybees’ fourth-place 4×100 relay that was led off by Amber Walker and Bailey McBee and anchored by Kylee Ponder in a  total of 51.74.

Gracie Bales was part of a cluster to tie for third in girls pole vault by clearing 7 feet, Shayden Toof was sixth in triple jump at 32-4 and Tania Arreguin finished sixth in the 3,200 in 13:43.14.

Yellow Jacket Krece Nowak leaped 20-7 for third in the boys long jump and also ran legs on their fourth place 4×200 relay and fifth place 4×100 relay. The same team ran both relays, with Lindsey leading off, followed by Nowak, Rico Wood then Rett Dittfurth. They finished the 4×100 in 45.40 and the 4×1200 in 1:35.97.

The Jackets were sixth in the boys 4×400, anchored by Lindsey to complete his buys day of scoring. The first three runners were Cassidy Smith, Holden Haile and Gilberto Garcia, with Lindsey bringing them home in 3:51.60.

Lane Rust also scored for the Jackets, taking fifth in the 800 in 2:09.98.
