LAWTON, Okla. (March 11, 2017) – Tarleton overcame a late-inning scare from Cameron to win the final game of the series against the Aggies 4-2 at McMahon Field.

“Today, we really showed what kind of team we are after losing two games yesterday,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “It was tough to score runs with the wind blowing straight in but we had good energy, dugout intent, and good pitching by Jordan Withrow. All of those helped us get the win today.”

The TexAnns got superb start from freshman Jordan Withrow, who kept the Aggies off the board over the first six innings of the game. Withrow danced out of trouble in four of the six innings while retiring nine consecutive batters from the end of the second to the beginning of the fifth.

Meanwhile, Withrow’s offense came to her aid beginning when Alyssa Ringhausen lifted off for her second career home run – solo shot to left center to put Tarleton on top 1-0 in the the top of the fourth.

That 1-0 lead held up through the seventh inning.

Tarleton put up a three spot in the top of the seventh when Marisa Flores led off the inning with a single and Megan Durante coaxed a one-out walk to set up the inning. After a groundout, Tarleton cashed in with two outs when Meghann Wrinkle drove in a pair with a 2-RBI double to left before a Cameron error allowed Tarleton to tack on its final run of the game for a 4-1 lead.

The Aggies answered with a rally of their own as they loaded the bases with no one out to force the TexAnns into the bullpen.

Cameron plated a pair on a two-run single and reloaded the bases with a walk, but Haley Freyman got a shallow fly ball to center before serving up the game-ending double play right back to herself, which she turned into the 1-2-3 twin killing to win the game.

Withrow earned the win with six innings of work, over which she allowed two runs on four hits and seven strikeouts while striking out a pair. Haley Freyman earned her fourth save of the season with one inning of work.

Maddie Quintanar and Nyka Wood each boasted two-hit performances while Wrinkle, Ringhausen, and Flores each had one base hit to round out the seven-hit Tarleton attack.

The TexAnns will return home for a Monday afternoon doubleheader against Texas A&M International at 4 p.m. in Stephenville.
