STEPHENVILLE (March 13, 2017) – The accolades are continuing to come through for Romond Jenkins as the senior was named D2CCCA first-team All-Region.

Jenkins becomes the 12th player in Tarleton men’s basketball history to receive NCAA first-team All-Region honors. Sports Information Directors from NCAA Division II South Central Region schools and conferences selected the D2CCA All-Region teams.

The Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Year helped lead Tarleton to a 22-8 record and reach the NCAA Tournament for the eighth straight season. Jenkins, who was also a first-team All-LSC selection, has been one of the best rebounders in the nation this season. Jenkins was the only player in the Lone Star Conference to average a double-double with 13.3 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. Jenkins ranked fifth in the nation with 18 double-doubles. Jenkins was second in the LSC in rebounding, 11th in the league in scoring, first in field goal percentage (63.1), first in blocked shots (2.0) and 10th in steals (1.4).

Jenkins was top 12 in the nation in several categories: eighth in total rebounds (324), eighth in rebounds per game (11.2), eighth in offensive rebounds per game (3.97) and 11th in field goal percentage (63.4). Jenkins established career highs this season in points (26), rebounds (17, three times), steals (6, two times), and blocks (6, two times). Jenkins had double digit rebounds in 21 of the 30 games. Jenkins was a four-time Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the most in the LSC.

In just two seasons at Tarleton, Jenkins etched his name throughout the Texan record books. From a career standpoint, Jenkins ranks 11th in rebounds (528), eighth in blocks (87) and eighth in double-doubles (21). Jenkins’ stellar senior season also ranks as one of the best in school history with his 335 rebounds ranking fifth in a single season. His 217 defensive rebounds place him fourth all time in a season and the 118 offensive rebounds is sixth-best all time. Jenkins is also fifth in double-doubles in a season (18) and 10th in blocks (60).

As a first-team All-Region selection, Jenkins is now eligible to be honored as an All-American, which will be announced later this month.
