STEPHENVILLE (March 21, 2017) – Cynthia Huckabee, owner of a new boutique on the downtown square in Stephenville, is flying and finally living a dream that was a “long time coming.”

On a typical Monday afternoon, Cynthia, her daughter, Kali Eason, and sister, Ruby Jones, were busy at work inside of Silver Wings. Cynthia was pricing new merchandise while Kali folded t-shirts and casual wear and Ruby steamed finer garments.

When asked about the store’s name, Cynthia said Silver Wings was borrowed from a classic Merle Haggard tune.

The boutique’s logo isn’t reminiscent of the airliner of which Haggard sang, but you can see the connection. A pair of silver angel wings hanging on the shop’s wall look as though they’re carved of titanium. The metal is strong and lustrous and used in the construction of airplanes. Talking about the new venture days after opening the boutique’s doors and a couple of weeks prior to an April 1 grand opening celebration, Cynthia is confident the business will grow strong and have a shine of its own.

Why the boutique business?

Cynthia said opening Silver Wings Boutique followed plenty of prayer and the perfect opportunity. She was given the chance to purchase store fixtures and an online client list of more than 10,000 shoppers from an existing boutique.

She jumped on the opportunity and the chance to bring a longstanding dream to life by moving into a storefront at 150 South Belknap.

“I wanted something that would allow me to express my creative side,” Cynthia said.

Running a mom and pop is nothing new. Cynthia has worked at her family’s business, Star Arms – the gun shop, hunting and outdoors store located on U.S. Highway 377 – since it opened about a decade ago. Cynthia said she will continue working there doing a job she loves and feeds adventurous side.

At the same time, Silver Wings will serve her feminine side and allow Cynthia to showcase her personal style, love for fashion and panache for decorating.

“I finally have the best of both worlds,” she said.

What sets Silver Wings apart from the rest?

Boutiques are a big business in Texas and the Cowboy Capital has several to call its own, but Cynthia believes there are a few things that make Silver Wings different.

“This boutique is going to be for women for all ages,” she said. “I want it to be somewhere mom, daughter and granddaughter can all shop together. I want all women to come in and find something they love.”

The plus-size line is expected to debut in the near future.

Looking at the racks, there appears to be something common to most – if not all – of the garments. Calm colors, muted patterns and smooth lines reminiscent of the Texas sky on a calm day or a walk along a beach when the weather is just right.

Still, Silver Wings, like the promise to serve women of all sizes and ages, offers plenty of variety and Cynthia attributes that fact that to her ever evolving style. She can be a little bit hippie, a tiny bit bohemian, sometimes trendy and always classy.

“I would wear any of this and want other women to feel the same,” she said.
