Erath County Constable Jason Schipper, shown here at a Republican Party forum during the election, was involved in a crash Friday afternoon. He is listed in serious condition in a Fort Worth hospital.

While at the scene, Schipper was standing at the back of his patrol car directing traffic when he observed a car skid out of control and head in his direction. The report states Schipper ran towards the middle median where the vehicle struck him with its left front which threw Schipper into the air.

Wilson reported, after the accident, Schipper refused EMS and continued to assist.

However, upon returning home to Erath County, Schipper’s condition worsened and he went to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville where he was evaluated and sent via air ambulance to a Fort Worth hospital with a spinal injury. As of 11:15 p.m. Schipper was listed in serious, but stable, condition.
