(March 24, 2017) — Courtney Langley scored the only goal of the first half before her and Ciara Johnston earned braces in the second half of a 7-0 Stephenville win over Burkburnett in a Region I-4A girls bi-district playoff match at Bulldog Stadium in Abilene Friday.

The No. 12 Honeybees scored three goals in a six-minute stretch in the second half, and amassed six goals after intermission. Their fifth straight win sends them into the area round against San Elizario next Friday at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland.

Burkburnett, having already lost 12-1 to Stephenville previously, packed it in defensively in an attempt to avoid such an onslaught in the post season. Early on, it worked, with only the first goal from Langley off an assist by Gracie Bales, coming before halftime. Stephenville was outshooting Burkburnett 16-0 at intermission, and shortly after play resumed, the dam broke.

Nine minutes into the second half Ciara Johnston bent in her first goal on an assist from freshman classmate Hayleigh Beam, and four minutes later Langley added her brace off a cross from Claire Choate, another freshman. Only five minutes passed before the next goal, this one from Madison Carter with help from Alexis De Los Santos for a 4-0 lead with 22 minutes left. A shot by Beam went off of Johnston and in, giving them another assist and goal, respectively, just one minute after Carter’s score.

The rout continued with Bailey Atchley scoring the sixth and Lisa Strand the seventh on assist Mackinzee Reed.
