STEPHENVILLE (March 25, 2017) — Stephenville senior Ragan Wood is one of a handful of competitors expected to battle it out for the state championship in his weight class at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet at Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene Saturday.

The Flash caught up with Wood for a Q&A before the last – and biggest – meet of his high school career:

Q: Being a senior, what does that add to thrill of not only knowing you get to lift at state, but knowing you get to finish your high school career there?

RW: It’s pretty amazing, not only it being my last meet but having a good chance at winning.

Q: Which lift is your favorite? Why?

RW: Squat, that is my best lift

Q: Do you take any certain strategy or goal into the state meet? Or is it all about seeing how each lift feels and where you need to be to compete for one of the top spots as you determine how much weight to load up for the next lift?

RW: For me personally it’s about seeming how my first two lifts feel then really putting on some big weight on those last lifts.

Q: What are you looking forward to most about the state meet? The atmosphere? Competition?

RW: Mainly the competition. There are about four guys including myself competing for the top spot.

Q: How have coaches inspired and motivated and influenced your lifting career at SHS?

RW: They have helped me tremendously by working on my form to pushing me to be the best lifter and person I can be.

Q: Is lifting something you plan to continue after high school?

RW: I’m not sure if I’ll be lifting in competitions after high school but for sure continue to lift weights.

Q: What are your college/career plans?

RW: Iplan on attending Tarleton for a major in kinesiology.

Q: What has the best part of this powerlifting season been for you?

RW: The competitions, and also being able to be a mentor to the younger kids in powerlifting.
