Stephenville’s Wood, Dublin’s Price place third at state powerlifting meet

(March 25, 2017) — Stephenville’s Ragan Wood and Dublin’s Ethan Price are among the strongest weight lifters in the state in their respective weight classes and divisions.

Wood placed third in the Division II 220-pound class and Price third in the Division III 275-pound class at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet Saturday at Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.

Wood totaled 1,515 pounds with 645 on squat, 370 on bench press and 500 in dead lift. His subtotal of 1,015 had him in second, 20 pounds out of first and 10 ahead of third. The senior was red-lighted for technicalities on his opening two pulls in the dead lift, however, and had to pull 500 on his third attempt to stay alive and medal.

Price totaled 1,590 pounds with 600 on squat and 450 giving him a second-place subtotal of 1050. He finished his season with a 540-pound pull in the dead lift.
