Robert Aaron Pilbro, 37, is on his way to prison for possession of child pornography.

Pilbro struck a deal in the 266th Judicial District Court Monday, pleading guilty to the second-degree felony offense in exchange for a 14-year stint in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Pilbro, who was represented by court-appointed defense attorney Randy Thomas, has been confined in the Erath County Jail since being sentenced in an unrelated case on January 14, 2016.

In that case, an Erath County jury handed down the maximum two-year sentence of possession of methamphetamine, according to Assistant District Attorney Jett Smith.

A pending appeal in the drug case kept Pilbro in the county jail – where he was confined when the child pornography charges surfaced in June 2016.

“While he was in jail, a friend or family member sold an electronic device to a local pawn shop that was later found to contain pornographic images of minors,” Smith said. “Mr. Pilbro was later identified as the owner of that device.”

The electronic device contained more than 70 images of several minor females who appeared to be 14 years old or younger engaging in various sexual activities, according to the affidavit for Pilbro’s arrest.

When he was interviewed by Detective Pete Goodman with Stephenville Police Department on August 1, 2016, Pilbro admitted to possessing the images and said he knew the girls pictured were younger than 18 years old – not legally adults.

Pilbro also told the detective he had previously distributed similar images through Kik, an online instant messenger, the affidavit states and intended to distribute the images that were found his electronic device.

Meanwhile, a number of other defendants were sentenced as a result of plea agreements Monday, including:

Luis Ismael Burciaga, 23, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for burglary of a habitation and 20 months in a state jail for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The sentences will run concurrently.

Barry Douglas Cartret, 36, was given six years in prison for possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine.

Michael Jack Koger was sentenced to two years in prison – probated for four years – for possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine.

Claud Thomas Taylor, Jr., 36, received 16 months in a state jail for possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine.

In a March 20 proceeding, Melissa Ann Boyer, 23, was sentenced to 20 months in a state jail for forgery by passing.
