He was born on January 18, 1937, in Gorman, Texas, to Ottis and Hazel (Beam) Fields. On February 14, 1958, he was united in marriage to Susie Mae Cook in Comanche. Bobby owned his first business when he was still in high school, a service station, which he and his brother Waylon opened in Comanche. After graduating from Comanche High School in 1955 Bobby served in the Naval Reserves, where he learned the electrical trade and later became a Master Electrician. He started Fields Electric in 1962 and it continued to operate for fifty-five years. In 1953, Bobby became a member of East Side Baptist Church, where he remained until his death. Bobby accomplished many things in his life but he considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family.

He leaves behind a legacy of 75 immediate family members, all people who proudly called him Daddy or Papa.
