(April 20, 2017) — Cole Gilliland soared 12 feet 6 inches to win a 3A boys area championship in the pole vault Wednesday, highlighting Dublin’s competition in an area track and field meet.
Gilliland is one of four from Dublin to advance to the Region I-3A Track and Field Meet at Abilene Christian University April 28-29.
Jake Seals of Dublin advanced in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing third at the area meet in 41.76 seconds. He had a chance to double qualify but finished sixth in the 110 meter hurdles.
The hurdles were kind to Dublin at the area competition, as Hans Hoekman took fourth in the 110s in 15.5 to punch his ticket to the regional event.
Whitney Weems will be the only Lady Lion moving on to regionals after placing third in the discus at 99 feet, 9.5 inches.
