TexAnns, Wild atop LSC leaderboards after first round

FRISCO (April 24, 2017) – Tarleton women’s golf holds a one-stroke lead after the first round of the Lone Star Conference Championships at the Frisco Lakes Golf Club.

The TexAnns shot a 299 (+11) on the Par 72, 5,834-yard course. West Texas A&M is in second with a 300 (+12). The final two holes lifted Tarleton over the Lady Buffs, with the TexAnns shooting -4 with no bogeys to close out the round. WT shot +3 on the final two holes.

Casey Wild, the Lone Star Conference Player of the Year, is atop the individual leaderboard after shooting even par 72. Wild is the only player to shoot better than two-over par on the day. Wild was two over through five holes, but finished two under on the final 13 holes, including birdies on 9 and 10. Wild led all players with 14 pars in the round.

Sarah Gee, a first-team All-LSC selection, is tied for fifth after carding a 75 (+3). Gee had a strong finish to her round with birdies on 16 and 18. Gee totaled 11 pars in the round.

Beatriz Prados and Lydia Traylor, both of which were first-team all-LSC selections, are tied for 12th after the opening round with scores of 76 (+4). Prados started her round with a birdie and also had one on No. 12. Prados had 10 pars. Traylor had a tremendous scorecard on the back nine with four birdies and three of them coming on the final four holes. Traylor’s four birdies leads all golfers. Traylor also had eight pars.

Casey Leatherman is tied for 26th with a first-round score of 79 (+7). Leatherman had a birdie on 18 to close out her round. She also had 10 pars.

The TexAnns finished with 11 birdies to lead all teams, and their 53 pars rank second.

Tarleton will look to win its 10th Lone Star Conference Championship tomorrow with the TexAnns teeing off in the final round at 8 a.m.
