(April 26, 2017) — A second round come back has De Leon celebrating a regional golf championship and planning a trip to state.

The Bearcats, coached by Zack White, were one stroke out of first and just one stroke ahead of third on the team leaderboard after the first round before pulling away for a 7-stroke victory in round two at Brickyard Golf Club in Ferris.

Jordan Hardin paced the Bearcats with rounds of 80 and 83 for a two-day total of 1634, followed by Kevin Yeager at 85-87 for a total of 172. Chase Beck shot 92-91 for a 183, Slade Gooden battled and shot 93-96 for a 189 and Hayden McCarty rounded out the five-man team.

Daniel Sanchez reached the regional event as an individual medalist and had a good showing with a two-round score of 180 to finish 16th.

The state tournament for 2A teams and individuals is May 15-16 at Roy Kizer Golf Course in Austin.
