Six Stephenville pitchers combine to no-hit Dublin in warmup game

STEPHENVILLE (May 2, 2017 ) — Six pitchers took the hill for Stephenville in a playoff warmup game against neighbor Dublin Tuesday, and they all had one thing in common – none of them allowed a hit.

The combined no hitter began with Easton Jones working two silent innings, Caleb Gibbons striking out two in the third, Luke Bullard pitchig the fourth, Caleb Smith firing in the fifth,Kade Averhoff fanning two in the sixth and Daniel Luna matching Averhoff in the seventh.

Stephenville won, 6-0, as both teams prepared for their upcoming playoff series.

Stephenville meets Kennedale in a Region I-4A bi-district sereies. Game 1 is 7:30 p.m. Friday at Stephenville, and Game 2 is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kennedale. If needed, Game 3 will begin 30 minutes following the conclusion of Game 2.

Dublin faces Jim Ned in a Region I-3A bi-district series. Game 1 is 5 p.m. Friday with Game 2 to follow 30 minutes after Game 1 is complete. Game 3, if necessary, is 11 a.m. Saturday. The entire series is in Brownwood.

Stephenville had seven wins off the Lions, including two each by Cody Storrs, Derek Gifford and Easton Jones. Clay Krause had the remaining hit. All the Jackets’ hits were singles, aided by five Dublin errors. Stephenville was often plagued by errors in 8-4A district play but limited them to just one in the warmup game.
