STEPHENVILLE (May 3, 2017) — Dr. Moumin Quazi, associate professor and director of Graduate Studies in English at Tarleton State University, has been named winner of the 2017 Frances Hernandez Scholar-Teacher Award.
Established by the Hernandez family, the award recognizes outstanding teaching, scholarly and professional achievement, and service to the Conference of College Teachers of English (CCTE).
CCTE made the presentation last month at its annual meeting in Quazi’s hometown of Hurst.
Quazi is author of “Migratory Words” (Lamar University Literary Press, 2016), a collection of short stories and poems, as well as several articles in the South Asian Review. He has served as president of CCTE, the South Asian Literary Association, the Texas College English Association and the Stephenville Rotary Club.

Quazi earned his bachelor’s of fine arts degree at Texas Christian University, a master’s at Dallas Theological Seminary, and his master’s and doctorate in English at the University of North Texas. He has taught at UNT, the University of the Incarnate Word, Wayland Baptist University and Lamar University as well as Tarleton.
Hernandez Award recipients are selected from nominations made by colleagues within the nominee’s university and peers from schools throughout Texas.
