(May 6, 2017) — Easton Jones was at his best Friday, and so were the Stephenville Yellow Jackets.

The junior pitcher struck out 12 batters and allowed just three hits as Stephenville (20-7-2) seized playoff momentum with a 7-2 victory over Kennedale (17-9-1) at James T. Young Baseball Field Friday evening.

Game two starts at 2 p.m. Saturday with game three, if necessary, to follow at Kennedale High School.

Jones allowed just two runs and issued two walks, but by and large kept the Kennedale bats quiet while playing from in front the whole way thanks to a four-run bottom of the first by the Yellow Jackets.

Kennedale scored both its runs in the top of the second, but Stephenville answered with one in the third and two in the fifth.

Trevor Easter and Kade Averhoff each had a hit and drove in two runs to provide more than enough run support for Jones. Caleb Gibbons had a double and an RBI while Derek Gifford scored twice. Cody Storrs was 2-for-4 from the dish.

The winner of the series faces Sweetwater or Burkburnett in the area round next week.
