ERATH COUNTY (May 11, 2017) –Golfers and other supporters are teeing off and drinking up for Erath County Habitat for Humanity this weekend and you can be a part of the fun, too. A fundraising event to provide adequate and affordable housing to local families, the Craft Beer Golf Scramble will be held Saturday at Legends Country Club in Stephenville.

Entry fee is $75 per golfer or $450 per team for the six-person team scramble. Fees includes green and cart fees, complimentary craft beer samples will be provided along the course, a pull pork dinner and a door prize ticket are included as well. Additional raffle tickets will be sold for door prizes.

Lori Herford, Erath County Habitat for Humanity board president, said the nonprofit is finishing their seventeenth house since beginning in Erath County. Each family is required to put in sweat equity hours, 300 physical hours.

“We sell the house to them through a no interest loan, which makes it affordable to help low income families own a home,” Herford said. “We are hosting a dedication service for the current project is anticipated within the next month for a single mom with a child.”

There is another family, couple with five children, who will qualify for a little bit bigger house, and Herford said Habitat is already searching for a property within city limits to build on for them.

She said the loan requirements are similar to HUD income standards, wherein the new owners must make enough money to afford the home loan payments. Habitat will then sell the house to them minus the organization’s cost. Herford said it costs approximately $50,000 to build in Stephenville.

Erath County Habitat, has also built three homes in Dublin and has a lot to offer future applicants. In order to continue offering wonderful homes to families in the community who need it, Habitat holds annual fundraisers like the golf scramble.

“This scramble is a great way to have a lot of fun this weekend,” said event organizer, Nic Burleson. “This fundraiser is one of the primary ways we get funding to build homes here in Erath County. The generosity of our community is the thing that allows Habitat for Humanity to fund the work we have done and provides us a means to help these local families in their time of need.”

The scramble begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, and registration can be completed online or in person at Legends Country Club before the event begins. Individuals interested in participating in the projects, can contact Lori Herford at (254) 592-1079
