GLEN ROSE (June 8, 2017) — Stephenville pulled off a two-step at Tiger Arena Thursday, winning two summer league friendlies by 10 points each. The Yellow Jackets beat Whitney, 44-34, then closed the night by knocking off host Glen Rose 36-26. The Stephenville summer squad – this one consisting of players expected to be on the 2017-18 varsity roster – is coached by paste SHS principal Travis Stilwell, who is now the superintendent at nearby Tolar but still has a son at SHS. The Glen Rose team, coincidentally, was also under the direction of a familiar face in former Tarleton men’s basketball player Davin Reibock.

The summer games are independent and do not include any type of standings or playoffs. They are simply meant to keep the players on the court working together during a time when no one directly related with your school can coach your team. The games are 40 minutes divided into two 20 minute halves. They use a running clock, shoot one free throw instead of two on applicable fouls and halftime is brief. But it’s basketball, and the teams are there to win.

The Yellow Jackets do have a more intense summer event coming up, having qualified for the Texas Basketball Championships state tournament Thursday, June 23 – Saturday, June 25 at gyms throughout the Grapevine/Colleyville area.
