(June 16, 2017) — The Dublin Lions qualified Friday for their third appearance in the Adidas Texas 7v7 Championships.

The 1-9 regular season of 2016 seemed a distant memory as the final seconds ticked away in a 35-29 state qualifying victory over Ballinger Friday afternoon in Jim Ned. The Lions stretched their advantage to 20-7 early in the second half, only for Ballinger to score 14 straight. But Dublin had the biggest run and the last laugh, firing off 15 straight for a 35-21 advantage then holding on after surrendering a late score.

The Lions topped Anson, 47-17 and Clyde 39-33 before wrapping up pool play with a 34-20 win over Coleman.

As a 3A member, Dublin competes in 7-on-7’s Divsion II, comprised of Conference 4A and smaller schools. Pool play in Division II is Thursday, June 29, with every team advancing to either the championship or consolation bracket on Friday, June 30. Pool play for Division I teams from 5A and 6A schools is Friday, June 30, with the same bracket setup on Saturday, July 1.
