RANGER (June 16, 2017) – Having spent 19 years of her professional life working in public education, Jennifer Kent decided it was a good time for a change. She decided to leave her job as principal of Early High School to become the Vice President of Ranger College Erath County.
“Being involved with the academic advisory boards at Ranger College and Howard Payne University opened my eyes to the opportunities of higher education,” said Kent.
Ranger was drawn to Kent in large part because of the work she did while at Early High School. EHS was named as one of the top high schools in the nation by US News and World Report. Early became the only school in the area to earn that recognition because of scores earned on the SAT and ACT tests, as well as results of advanced placement courses.
“Jennifer is one of the finest administrators I have ever worked with,” said Ranger College President Bill Campion. “Early High School is a model for outstanding education and leadership. Having observed Jennifer in that capacity for five years combined with the knowledge she has for contemporary issues facing public education made her a natural fit for this position.”
Forty percent of Ranger College’s enrollment came from dual credit students this past year. During the 2016-17 school year, Early High School had 63 students taking RC classes.
“Working at the high school level we had to understand that students weren’t done when they walked across the stage in May. We had to create a college-going culture and that wouldn’t have been possible without Ranger College,” Kent said.
While she has spent the last five years in Brown County, Kent has strong ties to Stephenville and Erath County. After graduating from nearby Hico High School, she earned her undergraduate degree from Tarleton State University. She is married to Doug Kent who is the defensive coordinator and math teacher at Dublin High School. Kent has also spent time teaching in the Dallas Independent School District and Kingsville ISD.
