STEPHENVILLE (June 16, 2017) – The Learfield Sports Director’s Cup standings presented by NACDA, which ranks every athletic department from NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, has Tarleton at the No. 72 athletics department in the nation based on its success in 2016-17.

“The Learfield Cup epitomizes the hard work of all of our coaches and student-athletes last year,” said Athletic Director Lonn Reisman. “We had six teams qualify for the NCAA postseason and several track athletes compete at the national championships in indoor and outdoor competition. We had a great year of athletics, which says a lot about our coaches, student-athletes, and our Texan Club. Our fans and supporters give us an opportunity to be successful.

“We always want to improve our ranking, but to be one of the top 75 programs in the country is a nice accomplishment,” he added.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 14 sports – seven women’s and seven men’s – and Tarleton finished the season with 263.00 total points, including 50.0 in the fall, 50.0 in the winter, and 163.00 total points from the spring sports.
