GLEN ROSE (July 17, 2017) — Stephenville won two of three games in pool play and called it a day in a Texas Basketball Champions state qualifier tournament Saturday.

Stephenville has alreday qualified for the TBC state tournament in Grapevine and Colleyville next weekend, so they were not eligible for the bracket playoffs following pool play. The pool was quite competitive with Stephenville winning a one-point game of 8-4A district rival Glen Rose, and losing a one-point game in overtime to Keene. Stephenville also blew out China Spring, 42-17.

Jayci Morton banked in a tough, contested jumper from the right block with 12 seconds remaining, then grabbed the biggest rebound of the day following a Glen Rose miss with four seconds left as the Honeybees won 26-25. They improved to 5-1 on the summer, going 3-0 and winning a state qualifier tournament in Mineral Wells. The Glen Rose victory gave the Bees an exciting finish to a day that began with a gut-wrenching loss, 39-38 to Keene.

The Honeybees and the Yellow Jacket boys team will both represent Stephenville in the TBS state tournament. The girls have made it to state all three summers in the 3-year old TBS, while the boys made it to state in their first-ever state qualifier tournament.
