Seven Tarleton ROTC Texan Battalion cadets receive commissions

STEPHENVILLE (June 16, 2017) — Seven Tarleton State University ROTC Texan Battalion cadets have been commissioned second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, serving in active duty, the Reserve or the National Guard.

Cadets must complete their undergraduate degree, including a military science curriculum, and pass a physical fitness test to be commissioned.

“Being a military officer is one of the most prestigious and satisfying professions an American citizen can have,” said Lt. Col. Marty Deckard, head of Tarleton’s Department of Military Science. “Many of our cadets have gone on to become CEOs of major corporations and hold key government positions after completing their military service. We are extremely proud of these seven young men and women and their decision to serve our country.”

Recently commissioned Texan Battalion cadets, their undergraduate degree, hometown and service assignment are:
• Adewale Adenrele, biology, Lagos, Nigeria—active duty infantry officer

• Raymond Jones, political science, Copperas Cove, Texas—active duty infantry officer

• Grace Kantz, environmental engineering, Fort Worth—National Guard quartermaster officer

• Julia Kendall, music, Temple, Texas—Reserve military intelligence office

• Maverick Maxcy, business administration, Chicota, Texas—Reserve signal officer

• Adam Pope, criminal justice, El Paso, Texas—National Guard adjutant general

• Brandon Proctor, criminal justice, Portland, Ore.—active duty transportation officer.
