STEPHENVILLE (July 25, 2017) — Tarleton State University has received accreditation for its master’s degree program in clinical mental health counseling from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
CACREP accreditation recognizes university counseling programs that meet the standards set by the profession and is among the highest commendations that an academic program can receive. CACREP is the training standard for counselors by the Institute of Medicine and the Veteran’s Administration.
“We are proud to have our graduate counseling program and faculty recognized by CACREP,” said Tarleton Provost Dr. Karen Murray. “This accreditation is a clear indication of our ability to serve the needs of our students and provide the education and training they need to find the best jobs possible.”
Tarleton’s 60-hour program prepares students for careers as licensed professional counselors in Texas. Classes are available days, evenings and weekends at the Stephenville campus, and Fort Worth and Waco centers.
“Obtaining CACREP accreditation affirms our commitment to excellence and identifies our master’s program as one of the best in Texas, even the nation,” said Dr. Julie Merriman, head of Tarleton’s Department of Counseling.
