Stephenville (August 8, 2017) – A Stephenville mother is warning others of dangers we sometimes forget – like leaving your car unlocked.

“I just wanted to share this information in the hopes of helping prevent what happened to us from happening to someone else,” said the resident, who asked to remain anonymous. “Everyone needs to know this happens here and for the safety of other parents and their children, we’re speaking up to informing others.

Monday, at approximately 7:40 p.m., Stephenville Police were dispatched to the 1000 block of W. Jones Street in reference to a report of a burglary of a vehicle in progress.

“My cousin and I stopped by Hook Elementary School to look at my child’s class list,” the woman said. “As we turned around to go back to the car, we saw the suspect slam the car door and run off. When we looked, he had taken her phone and wallet from her car in broad daylight.”

Upon arrival, officers were informed that a black male suspect, approximately 5’10”, wearing a red tie-dyed shirt and black shorts opened a vehicle, removed items and ran from the scene, according to the report. Stephenville PD officials said they are currently investigating the case, however, they have no more information to release at this time.

If anyone has information on this vehicle burglary please contact the Stephenville Police Department at 254-918-1273.  Stephenville PD also asks citizens to help prevent burglary from vehicles by not leaving valuables inside their vehicles.
