MATCH DAY: Given current makeup of LSC, Tarleton-ASU is as big as it gets

AT A GLANCE
No. 17 Tarleton volleyball will be on the road for the final game of a seven-game road trip when the TexAnns take on No. 11 Angelo State on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Junell Center. It’s the sixth ranked matchup for the TexAnns already this season, which the TexAnns are 3-2 in those games. Tarleton is 7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference while Angelo State comes in with an 8-3 record and 0-2 in the conference.

LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton began Lone Star Conference play on the road at Texas Woman’s and took down the Pioneers in four sets on Friday. On Saturday, the TexAnns fell to Texas A&M-Commerce in five sets.

IN THE NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
Tarleton Volleyball continues its run as a national ranked team as the TexAnns enter Wednesday’s contest as the No. 17 team in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Tarleton’s first national ranking came in the final poll of the 2016 season when the TexAnns debuted at No. 25. They have been ranked in every release since – opening the season at No. 25, moving to No. 17 last week, and No. 14 last week, which was the highest ranking in program history.

CHASING HISTORY: THE DRIVE FOR 2405
Hailey Roberts enters Wednesday’s match with 2,028 career kills and is on the heels of the Lone Star Conference kills record, which has been held by Central Oklahoma’s Alma Brahimaj since 2002. Brahimaj boasts 2,404 career kills during her 1999-02 tenure with the Bronchos.

SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday marks the 50th career match between Tarleton and Angelo State since they first met back in 1978. Angelo State holds the all-time series lead, 34-15. The two teams played less than two weeks ago in the Colorado Premier Challenge, where the Rambelles won in three.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will return home for the first time in nearly three weeks when they take on West Texas A&M in the Wisdom Volleyball Gym on Friday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. The TexAnns will also host UT Permian Basin Saturday at 2 p.m.
